Judge Posner on Marijuana Prohibition: Really Absurd

Anyone who has studied law on both sides of the border should have some familiarity with Judge Richard Posner.  Appointed by President Ronald Reagan, Posner sits on the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and is a Professor at Chicago Law School.  Many of his judgments have made their way into law school textbooks.

According to this article, he recently had some very strong comments about marijuana laws, stating:

I think it’s really absurd to be criminalizing possession or use or distribution of marijuana. I can’t see any difference between that and cigarettes.
